Due to recent road works we have been asked to change the route of the hill climb. So this year for the first time we will be running the famous Els Àngels Hill Climb from the other side of the mountain.

The event will be run in exactly the same way as its always has been so the rules are unchanged, it’s a closed road event and finishes at the same place with the pasta party at the monastery as always.

The start will now be from the Madremanya side of the mountain, and the start time for the first rider will be 11am.

We ask riders to be at the sign in for 10:30 and at the start line 10 mins before their start time (the start list will be published the day before the race at the race office in Bike Breaks.)

The new start point is approx. 1 hour by bike from Girona, please follow the attached GPX track to the new start point.

Relive ‘2019 Hill climb new route’

Festival week kicks off with a bang! This is the perfect opportunity to test your legs out with a time trial up famous, local climb Els Àngels.

The Hill Climb, featuring Girona’s most renowned local ascent ‘Els Àngels’ is a true battle against the clock. At 10.4km in distance, it may sound a little daunting. However, with a relatively low average gradient many parts of the climb can be tackled at speed and finishing times in past editions have been nothing short of fast.

Riders leave the start ramp at 30 second intervals and the road is fully closed for the duration of the event. Prizes are awarded for the 1st 2nd and 3rd rider from each age category.

10.4 km in length and of varying gradients the whole way up – it is sure to be a test, however well worth the effort for the exceptional views up top!

Once completed, sit back with fellow participants at the beautiful Monastery on top and enjoy our Pasta Party. This is always a fantastic day out and a great way to meet other riders!

  • The start of the Hill Climb is at “Carretera Els Àngels” (the base of the climb).
  • You can ride to the start line in just 10 min from the center of Girona.
  • Riders must sign in at the start line before 10:30h. And then will be called for their individual start time.
  • Use of aero bars is prohibited.

*Entry to this event is included in the festival week entry and gold packs.
